Here are some tips for limiting the risks on portable devices:
Apps are controlled on the app stores. Keep them updated. Updates typically close security holes.
For example: if the app asks you for permission to share contacts, do not give it if it is not essential. If the app demands things it has no right to have, don't install it!
Outdated devices are more vulnerable. Updates are needed, because they remove vulnerabilities.
Most popular apps can contain malicious software or malware, which can allow hackers to access your data.
